We know that medical aid costs are already a tough pill to swallow (excuse the pun), but the reality is you’ll very likely be out of pocket for medical expenses without Gap cover.
First – what is Gap cover and why is it so important? Since Medical Aid typically pays up to a maximum threshold in or out of hospital, Gap cover is designed to essentially plug that gap, thereby protecting the client from the risk of being out of pocket for the excess medical costs that are likely to arise. Gap cover also comes into play for things such as critical illnesses such as heart attacks or cancer that typically require lengthy health care and treatment.
For anyone that doesn’t have Gap cover in place, whether you’re a client at BFC or not, we urge you get a quote today from your financial adviser and get the cover locked in. It’s typically around an extra 10-15% of your medical aid policy costs; around R200 – R500 per person. Our preferred suppliers are Stratum for individuals, and Ambledown or Kaelo for groups
